For the past twelve years, Mark A. Parrott has worked as a designer and taught classes in theatrical design and production at the University of Northern Iowa, where he was recently promoted to Assistant Professor of Theatre. During his tenure at UNI, Mark has designed scenery for productions of A Midsummer Nights Dream, Antigone, La Serva Pedrona, Gianni Schicchi, The Threepenny Opera, and lighting for A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine, Three Sisters, and The Music Lesson, among others.
He also served as technical director for the 2006-07 season and the resident scenic and lighting designer for Sturgis Youth Theatre. Mark has worked professionally at Coe College, Graceland College, Northwest Missouri State University, Clinton Area Showboat Theatre, Central Missouri Repertory Theatre, Maritz Communications Company in St. Louis, and Dinner Playhouse Inc. in Kansas City. Recent productions include scenic design for If You Give a Cat a Cupcake for the Omaha Children’s Theatre and props design for Count Dracula at UNI’s Strayer-Wood Theatre. In addition to his design work, Mark is a theatrical consultant for Peerbolte Creative, Warrensburg, MO, which has consulted on the current renovation of the historic Iowa Theatre in Cedar Rapids.
