For nearly four decades, the theatre’s support group, Friends of Theatre UNI (formerly known as S.T.A.G.E. Inc.) has supported many projects for the theatre, including guest residencies, receptions and purchases of equipment. In addition, Friends supports Theatre UNI by utilizing membership fees to fund scholarships for students in the department. Board members from Friends of Theatre UNI select the scholarship recipients through a competitive application and interview process.
The 2017-2018 recipients of the Friends of TheatreUNI scholarship are:
Jake is a Senior, majoring in Design and Production. Recently Jake has stage managed with TheatreUNI on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and again with The Aliens. Jake has also worked as Assistant Stage Manager for the Trinity Shakespeare Festival at Texas Christian University, working on two different productions in repertory for seven weeks. Some of his experiences there included working with live gunfire, Child actors, automated stage elevators, and stage blood. One of his favorite shows is Richard III. After graduation Jake hopes to work on touring productions before returning to grad school for an MFA in Stage Management, and pursuing a career as a college professor for young stage and production managers. Jake would also like to thank the Friends of TheatreUNI and his family for their support in pursuing his dreams!
Robin is a senior, with emphases in both Performance and Theatre for Youth. Recent shows include TheatreUNI's Into the Woods, and the Waterloo Community Playhouse/Black Hawk Children's Theatre production of The Tempest. After graduation in the spring she hopes to work with a Shakespeare company and/or tour with different productions. She also plans to continue to work as a teaching artist and work with students and youth in rehearsal settings, workshops, and after school programs. "It's so rewarding to teach and learn with students as they grow in their love for theatre and learn more about themselves along the way."

Callie is a senior Performance student graduating this fall. She plans to move to Atlanta to pursue her acting career. One of her favorite shows is In the Heights. Recently Callie was in TheatreUNI's Dead Man's Cell Phone, and served as Hair and Makeup Crew Head for Into The Woods. "I have loved being a part of this department and will always value the time I spent here! Thank you to the Friends of TheatreUNI and to my family for your continued support."
Megan Coffel is a Senior Design and Production Student; her focus and specialization is lighting and electrics. Megan has worked on previous TheatreUNI shows, as well as for the Utah Theatre at the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre Company, working as their Master Electrician. Some of Megan’s most recent projects include lighting designer for Waterloo Community Playhouse’s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, lighting design for TheatreUNI’s The Aliens. She is also working as the lighting advisor for UNISTA’S production of [Title ofShow]. After graduation Megan plans to work with a touring company and show, and attend grad school.
