Theatre UNI Alumni Visit from Commonweal Theatre

Our alumni go across the world in pursuit of their dream, others stay close to home in hopes of spreading the world of theatre to those in our own backyard. This is the exact case of Thomas White and Bailey Otto, two Theatre UNI alumni who have found a home only about a two hours drive from our campus. The Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro, Minnesota opened it’s doors in 2007 and has been thriving ever since. The Commonweal Theatre runs predominantly on the donations of over 700 individual donors with whom they have a personal relationship.  Both Thomas and Bailey work full-time at Commonweal as the Production Manager/Resident Designer and Production Stage Manager, respectively. Bailey came across Commonweal post-grad and decided that working at a theatre so close to home would be extremely rewarding and beneficial to furthering her education in her chosen craft. Thomas followed shortly after being drafted there by his former classmate Bailey. Both attribute some of their fondest memories and skills utilized post-grad to the education they had received here at the University of Northern Iowa’s Department of Theatre.
