Former student accepted in MFA Acting Program
Katy Slaven graduated from our department in 2010, and has recently been admitted to the acting training program at Florida Atlantic University. Here's what she reports about her activity since leaving UNI:
After graduation I offered a voice and movement workshop at the Webster City Community Theatre, which I was asked to do again the following summer. In the fall of 2010 I became involved with Theatre Cedar Rapids, and have performed The Stepdaughter in "Six Characters in Search of an Author," Babe in "Crimes of the Heart," and debuted the role of human-turned-android Amelia in the highly-acclaimed original play "The Summerland Project" at the TCR Underground Festival in 2011.
Additional performance work includes work with the Iowa Theatre Artists Company in a revamp of their original farce "Playing Doctor," with the Urban Theatre Project of Iowa in their in-your-face production of "A Feminine Ending," and with the outdoor summer theatre company Classics at Brucemore as Miranda in "The Tempest." In April 2012 I am slotted to be the guest artist for SPT Theatre's Tales from the Writer's Room Series in a new play called "Sorry." Next fall I will begin graduate school at Florida Atlantic University, and will earn an MFA in Acting. I hope to use my training and my degree to act professionally and teach at the university level.
